( Milk Thistle )

Milk Thistle has brilliant green foliage variegated with milky white veins are adorned with very sharp spikes. The entire plant is very thorny and is classified as a type of thistle. It is easily discerned from other thistles by its white varigation on the leaves.

After a year or two of growth it will shoot up a tall stem with a large head covered in thorns. This opens up into a beautiful bright purple flower that is loved by many pollinators.

Eventually the flower will close and become white and fluffy. When it opens up again, it will disperse its seeds on the wind much the same way as dandelions.

Milk Thistle seeds are very medicinal and can be used in a variety of ways. It has traditionally been used to treat liver and gallbladder disorders, promote breast milk production, prevent and treat cancer and even protect the liver from snake bites, alcohol and other environmental poisons.
